Decorative Mulch Ground Cover:

Description:
This work consists of applying decorative mulch in non-vegetated areas for decorative enhancement, weed suppression, moisture conservation and soil stabilization.

Construction Guidelines:
Mulch shall be spread evenly at an average depth of 2 inches. Mulch shall be applied thicker around trees and shrubs but kept 6 inches away from trunks.

Materials:
Decorative Mulch shall be Pro-Chip manufactured by BFI Organics or equivalent recycled wood chip mulch. Recycled mulch chip shall be made from kiln dried lumber and be color enhanced with mineral pigments that have a demonstrated color longevity of +1 year. If alternative recycled mulch chip is considered, samples must be submitted to the landscape architect for review.

Acceptable size ranges for decorative mulch are listed below:

Medium Decorative Mulch: 2 inch grind (all product passes 2 inch screen).

Using Compost For Turf & Plant Establishment:

Description:
Work consists of applying compost to the existing soil and rototilling the resulting layers to achieve a uniform mixture of amended soil capable of improving plant growth. This specification applies to all plantings, including shrubs, flowers, and ground cover.

Construction Guidelines:
Compost should be applied at an average depth of 2 inches and thoroughly incorporated to a depth of 6 inches. A mixture of 2/3 native soil and 1/3 compost shall be used for backfill around root ball. Water to soaking after planting.

Materials:
Yard Trimming Compost shall be dark brown or black in color, and demonstrated to enhancing plant growth. All material shall pass a 1/2" screen and contain no contamination such as rocks, debris, or uncomposted materials. Unless maturity and stability has been Quality Certified by Soil & Plant Labs. *, a recent product sample and laboratory analysis shall be submitted to the landscape architect for review. Note: Only in the event that a recycled compost is not available shall forest products be substituted.

Acceptable ranges for compost used for this application are listed below.

Using Compost For Turf Top Dress:

Description:
This work consists of applying compost to existing turf to help increase organic matter, reduce compaction, and increase the density and vigor of existing turf areas.

Construction Guidelines:
Compost shall be applied evenly at an average depth of 1/4 - 1/2 inch and worked into the turf using a grass rake, drag unit, or other device. Water thoroughly after application and follow normal fertilization practices.

Materials:
Yard Trimming Compost shall be dark brown or black in color, and demonstrated to enhancing plant growth. All material shall pass a 1/2 inch screen and contain no contamination such as rocks, debris, or uncomposted materials.
